Temperance tarot card meaning

An angel stands with one foot on land and one in a stream, pouring water between two cups in a thin, impossible arc. It shouldn’t work. The liquid moves at an angle no jug could manage, which is rather the message: this is a card about getting the proportions right by feel.

Upright

The right amount of everything. Temperance is moderation, but not the dreary kind. It’s the cook who knows when to stop adding salt. Two cups, one flow, and the patience to keep the stream steady. Upright, it usually means the answer is a blend rather than a choice between extremes.

I tend to read it as a slow yes. Whatever you’re after is reachable, but not by rushing. Keep the temperature even and let the thing brew.

Reversed

Reversed, the balance tips. Too much of one thing, not enough of another: overindulgence at one end, depletion at the other. Often it’s impatience: trying to force a result that only arrives at its own pace.

The remedy is unglamorous. Adjust one element at a time, taste as you go, and stop treating moderation as a compromise you’ve settled for.
